Course Description

This course will be held outside on the grassy area at the front of County Hall. Bootcamp fitness is about using exercise, the environment and teamwork to develop your own level of fitness and impact upon your physical and mental well being. Through unique sessions that are different every time you will be challenged in an exercise environment that is engaging and social - these are two of the most important elements in keeping you motivated to help meet your own fitness goals. The benefits of exercise are well known and the hardest part will be turning up! Your Tutor will be Andy Turner. Andy is a Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer. He has previously served in the Forces and the Police Service. He currently works in the charity sector as well as taking a variety of group exercise classes and one to one session work. He currently runs Bootcamps for British Military Fitness (BMF). To comply with our cancellation policy and procedures, courses that do not have 8 leaners enrolled 2 weeks prior to the course start date may be cancelled. Learners that have enrolled on courses that may be subject to cancellation will be contacted 2 weeks prior to the start date to advise them this may happen.

What will I learn?

Bootcamp fitness is about using exercise, the environment and teamwork to develop your own level of fitness and impact upon your physical and mental well being. Through unique sessions that are different every time you will be challenged in an exercise environment that is engaging and social - these are two of the most important elements in keeping you motivated to help meet your own fitness goals. The benefits of exercise are well known and the hardest part will be turning up! Once in the session you will enjoy them immensely and will benefit from the camaraderie of those who exercise with you. The sessions will involve exercises using your body weight as well as additional aids from time to time like tyres, battle ropes, kettlebells etc. Sessions may include some partner exercises all of which encourage teamwork and motivation. All fitness levels can be catered for with sessions and exercises modified to meet individual needs. Learners will be involved in fitness sessions that support their health and well being. These will aid their confidence and provide them with good instruction on exercise, and the 'good form' used for exercises so that they get the maximum benefit, as well as reducing the risk of injury. Working in a group will encourage social interaction and thus aid individuals motivation. Government guidelines recommend 150 hours of moderate exercise, 75 hours of vigorous exercise or a mix of both per week, plus some resistance training. These session will support that weekly target.

Is this course right for me?

No prior knowledge is required, just a willingness to take part and engage fully. Participants will be asked to complete a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) before taking part. This asks some basic health questions. If in any doubt participants should check with their doctor first.

What do I need to bring?

Wear suitable exercise footwear and clothing. The course needs 8 learners enrolled for it to be viable to run, it is advisable to wait until near the start date before buying materials.

How much does this course cost?

All of our Leisurestream courses are run purely on the fees that you as a learner pay as there are no government subsidies. Unfortunately this does mean that there are no concessions available so the full fee is applicable to everyone. The course needs 8 learners enrolled for it to be viable to run, it is advisable to wait until near the start date before buying materials

What qualification will I receive?

There is no formal qualification at the end of this course.

What can I study next?

You can enrole on another Boot Camp Fitness course. Norfolk Community Learning Services offers a wide range of both government-subsidised and self-financing courses. You may wish to continue on your current LeisureStream course and, subject to availability, you are welcome to do so. Where can I get additional support?

Financial support is not available for learners attending LeisureStream courses. If you feel that you need a course where support is available, we run a wide range of government supported courses that would be more suitable. For further information all of these courses are available on our website https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/education-and-learning/adult-learning If you have a learning difficulty, a disability or another reason for needing extra support in the classroom, we may be able to arrange support for you throughout your course. On LeisureStream courses, the cost of extra support in class is £11 per hour, and this would be paid for by the individual learner or shared between a group of learners requiring support in a class. This will be discussed with you at the time when you apply for extra support. We can also, at your own cost, arrange assessments for Dyslexia Screening. You can contact the Learner Services Team on 01603 306551 or by email at learner.services@norfolk.gov.uk
